Week starts with temperatures above 40 degrees
Temperatures will shoot from Monday, with some regions exceeding 40 degrees.
The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a yellow warning to much of the country and the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) shared a number of recommendations for the population to protect themselves during the heat wave.
On Monday, the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre will be under yellow warning, with thermometers reaching 40 degrees in Beja.
On Tuesday, the alert widens to the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga, with Santarém reaching 43 degrees.
The minimum temperatures should be around 20 degrees in much of the country.
Due to sharp heat forecasts, DGS warned of the dangers and left advice to minimize the impacts.
“Drinking water constantly, avoiding alcohol and giving preference to fresh or air -conditioned environments with air circulation are some of the recommendations.
It also advises to avoid direct exposure to the sun, especially between 11h and 17h; The use of sunscreen with 30 or higher factor, and the reapplication every two hours and after baths.
In addition, it suggested light, light -colored clothes, hat and sunglasses with UV protection, as well as avoiding intense outdoor physical activities.
Regarding car trips, DGS calls for the cooler hours to choose from travel, and it should be avoided leaving vehicles parked in the sun.
