We will no longer book space on the beach with a towel but through the application

Sardinia is facing increasing challenges due to mass tourism. In order to protect natural beauties and maintain sustainable development, authorities have introduced restrictions on beach access, one of the novelties is a digital reservation application that allows visitors to get entry to some of the most visited beaches. The measure is aimed at reducing the load of local resources and infrastructure and preventing excessive beach occupancy.

Tuerredda, known for its semicircular form and crystal clear water, is one of the beaches where the restrictions are already in force. Since 2020, the number of visitors has been limited to 1100 per day. Mayor of Teulade Angelo Milia strives to make the application running in July and thus facilitate the limitation of the beach visitors, reports the web portal Msn. The initiatives were joined by 25 other mayors, including Positano, Cinque Terra and Taormina, where they recorded the second season the popular series White lotos.

Excessive interference with the natural environment and the increase in mass tourism also causes dense shipping. The mayor of Caprija Paolo Falco therefore suggested a limitation of the number of ships per hour that hold the islands, writes Msn.

A $ 3500 penalty for sand theft

One of the most popular beaches is Spiaggia Rosa on Budelli Island, known for her pink sand. Due to the mass visit and theft of sand, access to this Plaža has been banned since the mid -1990s. Visitors can only admire the beach from the ship, and the offenders are punished with high fines. Walking on a pink beach is fined 500 euros, while the town of sand is fined up to 3500 euros.

On the Magdalen Islands on the beaches of Cala Coticio and Cala Brigantina, there are also strict restrictions. In the last year, 60 tourists per day could visit the beach, and they are have to book your place online and pay three euros to enter with a local guide.

Sardinia, with unspoiled beaches, is often one of the most popular destinations for seaside holidays in Italy. Digital beaches for beach space are part of a broader tourism management strategy not only in Italy but also elsewhere in the world. Restrictions are intended to protect natural resources and to improve visitors’ experience.
