– We need security and police, also in the districts
If an accident or criminal act occurs, then call the police. But what do you do when they don’t come?
This sounds like a horror scenario, but for Finnmark residents there have been several cases where the police have not been able to reach out to incidents that require the police presence.
In the Northern Cape, the police office is not fully staffed, and in several cases the police patrol has moved out of Lakselv. A drive of 2.5 hours! When urgent, precious time is lost in long response time.
In Berlevåg, young people called the police when they had found three packages of suspicious content. The youth was surprised by the police response, that they themselves had to carry the content they suspect to be large amounts of hashish, to the police station and hide it behind a trash can.
The police district explains the unfortunate situations of the lack of police at the local police office.
Fewer police officers at work are not an isolated problem for the Northern Cape and Berlevåg. There have been 36 fewer police in Finnmark calculated from the turn of the government in 2021 to April 2025. On a national basis, there have been 518 fewer police in the same time period. Taste it!
This is happening at the same time: Young criminal gangsters are increasing, the number of cases of cases increases and the clearance percentage is declining. This development is serious and threatens security.
During the Solberg government, a large-scale investment was made on the police. Over 2,500 new police officers were hired, a long -awaited equipment boost and an essential police reform were carried out. Now, under the Labor Party government, the pendulum swings in the opposite direction. We have got over 500 fewer police officers in the streets, although crime has increased sharply.
The Støre government Jojo policy has created uncertainty in the police and made priorities that we are constantly wondering about. The government likes to say that they have opened several service places, but it has been done against the police’s professional advice. This has led to less accessible police when we need them visible among people. We don’t need more police offices, we need more police where it happens!
In our alternative state budget for 2025, the Right has set aside NOK 618 million to the police than the government, which could have given over 700 more employees in the police districts in Norway. We must both keep the talented police officers we have and make sure to be hired and recruited more. The Jo-Jo governance The Støre government has been operating with the police in recent years and their opportunity to hold people. The right will have a strong strengthening and more predictability for the police, so they can be there when we need them.
There are choices this fall. Then you get the opportunity to say your opinion. What is important to you?
Do you need a police office or real presence of police when in need? For me, the answer is clear: Security with the presence of police must come first, also in the districts.
