How can we help an animal, victim of violence: questions and answers
« If someone attacks a person on the street and hurts him in some way, he will then be able to contact a lawyer, seek help and be given to him. And to whom an animal will turn to him?
What are the protesters’ requests
« In order to have a field of expression all the abusers, not only the two detainees, we are the reason for having animals outside because we did not castrate them, and in the end stray animals did not fall from the sky, » said Valeria Georgieva, one of the initiators of the protest.
After all, stray animals have not fallen from the sky
Valeria Georgieva. Protest initiator
She urged people to treat their pets more responsibly and take castration measures to reduce the population of stray animals. Some of them are collected in shelters and viewed in very difficult conditions.
« Our effort should always be to have fewer animals in the shelters, not to fill them, » Georgieva added.

She also turned to organizations that help to adopt stray animals to better explore their future owners so that they do not leave them in the hands of abusers.
Stefan Todorov, a representative of the civilian staff « Invisible Animals, » also called for measures that would help in the fight against violence against animals. Among them are:
- To solve the problem of stray animals and the ejection of pets
- To stop the massive poisoning of animals
- End of illegal kennels and trading of animals
- Police to respond to reports of violence against animals
- Prohibition of Mink Farms and Cells for calves
- Prohibition of animal experiments
- To draw up an Advisory Board and a Permanent Animal Protection Commission
Todorov urged the government to make a long -term commitment to solve these problems instead of just making changes to the Penal Code. According to him, there should be preventative measures against violence.
The people who work on the ground
« I come from the shelter in Bogrov. From 7 o’clock in the morning we have been there with the volunteers.
He explained that his efforts were aimed at rescuing animals from municipal shelters, who were fighting more serious health problems. He also talked about the extreme conditions in the summer and winter, when the animals there die of heat or cold. Every year, some of them die because of poor food.
« Almost every week we take animals from the municipal shelters to treat them at an external clinic, because otherwise they will die there. And the diagnosis is one – liver or kidney failure. This comes mainly from the food that is the lowest class.
During the protest, representatives of the initiative « Angels of Vrabnitsa » also spoke. They also signaled the poor conditions in the shelters and that they very often have to make animals from there to save them from death. The organization complained that the animals that were dying in the cells were not many.
The main demands of the protest remain to take more measures to limit the population of stray animals, as well as to have a reaction from the police for signals of violence not only on animals but also on humans. They also demand that the laws also provide for greater penalties for both crimes.
« I challenge you all to be part of the change. Do not close your eyes when you hear that someone is abused an animal or a person. Do not close your eyes because it is not with you. Tomorrow it can be with you, » said Valeria Georgieva.
