We need to calculate the percentage of student outflow according to the number of enrolled students, not according to the number in the competition, said Education and Science Minister Vesna Janevska, answering a question about reducing the number of students and whether they leave the faculties when they go abroad.

« When they go to the exchange, they cannot stay there, they go from the country after generally ending with their studies, which we seriously try to reduce, giving scholarships and making better conditions, » Janevska said.

He pointed out that an analysis is underway to establish quotas for enrolling students at public universities and clarified that the percentage of outflow is realistically lower because it needs to be calculated according to the number of enrolled students, not according to the number of vacancies in the competition announced.

-Because universities or faculties are announcing vacancies according to the number of students they have received with accreditation, when we finally summarize the number of students outflow greater than it is. We need to calculate the number of outflow of students according to the number of students enrolled, not according to the number in the competition announced. Why this is so done so far is not even important, now we will bring it okay. Because if the vacancies are 20,000 and only 10,000 are enrolled, then the percentage of outflow compared to 10,000 is much lower than if they were considered by 20,000, Janevska said, answering journalist questions at today’s press conference.

To keep students, he said, a new law on higher education is being prepared, new, modern study programs that will interest students are planned, much more practical work in public institutions and companies are planned.

-We are making all the efforts, for ten months so much, that’s the reality. Next year I hope it will be much better and that we will keep the outflow of our brains abroad to a minimum, Janevska said.

At the moment, he said, the competition is being prepared with the Higher Education Sector.

As the rector of the University « Ss. Cyril and Methodius »-Skopje Biljana Angelova, the competition for first year students for the academic 2025/2026 was adopted by the Rector’s Office and was delivered to the MoES.

« I expect to have the competition for the next year in June, » Angelova said.
