Wax napkins: How in Uzhgorod do wac

The ecology has established the production of wax napkins for products. Will they displace the food film from the shelves of stores?

More and more Ukrainians are beginning to pay attention to products that are less harmful to the environment. One of these is multiple wax wipes for storage of products that are an environmental alternative to food film.

A nice bonus of the so -called waxes – they help to save. « Using multiple waxes can be saved on a food film. In addition, the products are stored longer than in the film, » says Beesafe’s wax wipes owner Catherine Kich.

The path to this business began in the years of study at the Faculty of Geography of Kyiv National University. Taras Shevchenko. For six years she studied ecology. Then Kich realized that she wanted to make money, and the business himself should not harm the environment.

Catherine has been producing wax napkins since August 2024 and plans to conquer clients not only in Ukraine but also beyond.

From the editorial board. Small and medium -sized businesses generate more than half of the economy. Its representatives cannot lobby for their own interests, as big business does, but they always adapt to the conditions and find new ways to develop.

The EP shares the principles that entrepreneurs are guided by the pursuit of growth, so the editorial is shared by their interesting stories. These stories are not about stunning success and great fortune. These stories on how Ukrainians are developing, working on their own, working, and shared with experience.

What is a wax

Vocher is a wrapper for foodstuffs: fruits, vegetables, bread. They are usually wrapped in a food film for storage.

The wax napkin is completely biodegradable. It consists of cotton, natural wax, rosin (pine resin) and jojoba oil. After disposal, the wax napkin decomposes in three months, while the polyethylene film-for 200-500 years and at the same time, microplastic is released into the environment.

After use, the wax should be washed with mustard soap and dried, after which it can be used again. The shelf life is about a year. Another feature is that after use, it can be disposed of or used as a burner. That is, it can be rolled into a tube, set on fire and ignite a fire.

Catherine Kich

« I advertise their waxes not only as an ecological product, but also as functional, because Ukrainians are not as environmentally conscious as, for example, the Germans. When buying waxes, Ukrainians are counting on savings. In addition, the products are stored longer than in the film, » the owner of the Beesafe explains.

Production process

For the manufacture of waxes, Kich uses a certified cotton, which is imported from Turkey or Poland. The wax checks for paraffin – the beekeepers are often mixed to reduce the wax. Follow the quality of rosin and jojoba oil.

The production process includes the purchase of materials, storage, slicing of the fabric with a special machine, laying of fabric shreds on thermosplitis, filling the fabric with molten mixture of wax, rosin and jojoba oil, cooling.

The production of one wax launches half a minute. For production you need to choose the right recipe. Kichi went to people living in the Carpathians and doing cheeses to learn how to make napkins. Why to them? They do not have refrigerators, so they make waxes and store their products.

Voschany business process

Kich came to the wax business after receiving a state grant (UAH 250 thousand), which spent on the purchase of equipment (thermal grill, wax, cutting press) and raw materials. All equipment installed in an area of just less than 50 square meters in the room. m, which is rented in the Rio industrial cluster in Uzhgorod.

Now it sells 100 napkins a day. This figure increases by 20-30%monthly. Basic channels – marketplaces, Instagram and eco -films in Mukachevo.

« The number of sales and marginality allow you to cover all operating expenses and earn a profit. Currently, 50% of the profit is reinvesting into business, » – says the craftsman. According to her, the cost of the goods is 30%.

Beesafe waxes are sold in a set of three pieces of different sizes for 380 UAH. You can also buy one large napkin worth 280 UAH. According to Catherine’s calculations, one wax can replace four rolls or 200 m of food film, which is used on average by one person per year. Costs of such a film’s volume are From 100 to 300 UAH and above.

He wants to sell her products to supermarket visitors. « I want to be presented in Silpo, Metro and other grocery networks, » she says. Kich also prepares documents for exporting waxes to the EU countries.

Large -scale plans require expansion of production. It is now semi -automated in the craftsman, that is, part of handmade, such as filling the form. Kich wants the whole process of making waxes to be completely automatic.
