Washington renews military aid to Kyiv, Ukraine accepts thirty -day ceasefire
The United States will « immediately lift the suspension in intelligence exchange and renew security assistance to Ukraine, » the US and Ukraine said in a joint statement, published by the US State Department.
Ukraine is ready to accept the US urgent, temporary 30-day ceasefire after today's peace talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This ceasefire proposal will be able to continue with the mutual consent of both sides, but its application depends on the acceptance and implementation of Russia, reports the BBC.
US Secretary of State Marko Rubio told reporters in Jeddah after talks with the Ukrainian delegation that the United States made an offer that Ukraine accepted – to accept a ceasefire and launch negotiations for a permanent and sustainable end of the conflict. He added that this offer would now be transferred to Russia and expressed hope that Moscow would accept it. « Now the ball is with them, » Rubio said, adding that President Donald Trump wants the end of the war.
National Security Adviser Mike Waltz stressed that the meeting discussed the details of how to achieve lasting peace and what security guarantees would be provided for long -term stability. He announced that he would talk to his Russian counterpart in the coming days, and Secretary of State Rubio will attend a meeting of the G7 foreign ministers, where the process will continue.
Asked whether the proposed ceasefire refers to the entire combat line or just air and maritime operations, as Ukraine suggested, Rubio briefly responded: « Yes – the offer is a complete ceasefire. » He stressed that the only way to end this war is through negotiations, and for that to happen, « the shooting must first stop ».
Asked if Ukraine accepts some sort of goodwill from Russia or whether there is a deadline for implementation of the agreement, Rubio replied: « Ukraine is ready to stop shooting and starting to negotiate. » He added that he hoped Russia would accept the ceasefire, but if that did not happen, « then we will know what the real obstacle to peace is. » He reiterated that President Trump made it clear that he wanted the end of violence.
When reporters asked why the rare minerals agreement was not signed today, Rubio explained that it was not the subject of talks in Jeddah. He clarified that the agreement is being negotiated between Ukrainian and US financial institutions, but that the presidents of the two countries have instructed their government officials to finalize it.
Asked whether the relations between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelenski are « returned to normal », Rubio responded that the most important thing is « peace to be back on track ». He emphasized that this is not some kind of reality show, but a « serious thing » in which people are killed every day. «
« People will die in this war today, they died yesterday, and if there is no ceasefire, unfortunately, they will die tomorrow, » Rubio said. He reiterated that Trump wants this to end – for which these talks are being held.
Greenski's chief adviser, Andriy Jermak, who was part of the Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia, shared a brief statement on the X, stressing that « protecting Kiev's interests is the most important », and « righteous peace is crucial ». He thanked US and Saudi officials for a « constructive meeting ».
