Warning to tourists from the European city: Do not steal pavement stones – Cyprus Newspaper
A city in Belgium warned tourists not to steal stones from the historical center on the disappearance of the pavement stone up to 70 in the intensive season.
Brugge, the capital of West Flanda and the UNESCO World Heritage List, reminded holidaymakers that stones are not souvenirs.
Franky Demon, a member of the Municipal Assembly, recently claimed that the medieval city lost 50 to 70 pavement per month to visitors and the repair cost of the stones kept about 200 euros per square meter.
According to The Brussels Times, Demon called to tourists, « We don’t want anything other than you. Walking in Brugge, pressing hundreds of years of history. Please leave these stones where they belong. »
According to Demon, local points such as Minnewater, Vismarkt, Grand Place and the Gruthuse Museum lost the pavement stones rapidly, creating a danger of security for pedestrians.
In a statement to CNN, he said:
Some of them find it harmless or interesting, but they have serious consequences. The removal of the pavement stones creates an open security risk for both the residents and visitors. Missing or relaxed stones are inserted and dangerous, and for repair, municipal workers need to be assigned.
Demon added that the pavement stones are “part of the spirit of the city ve and should be protected for future visitors.
Local people in Brugge do not take action against tourism for the first time.
Tour Guide was pushed from the bridge
In the last July, a tour guide in Brugge was pushed from the bridge in front of a group of tourists who were horrified on the grounds that he “destroyed the city’s cultural heritage.
St. Pascal Gerritsen, a 31 -year -old Dutch tour guide sitting on the Bonifacius Bridge, was pushed by an unidentified cycling man and fell into the Dijver Channel.
A man who introduced himself as “masked architectural lover” told VRT that he had deliberately pushed Pascal because he did not respect architecture ”.
The attacker wrote about his motivation to use urban furniture, such as benches, garbage boxes, street lamps to address the tour participants, ”he wrote.
