In 2025, the Warmest Week, the solidarity campaign of the VRT, is committed to people who are invisibly ill. The attention goes to diseases that cannot always be seen, such as chronic pain or extreme fatigue. Three VRT faces, Annabet Ampofo, Bavo Mortier and Fien Germijns, are the ambassadors this year.
Many people do not realize it, but there is a long list of diseases that are almost invisible, such as compulsive thoughts, migraine, anxiety disorders and diabetes. And what many people don’t know is that Impact is the disease. « All those complaints cannot be seen on the outside, » says Bavo Mortier of Sporza. « That entails a double burden: not only the physical and mental complaints, but also the misunderstanding and the lack of recognition. »
With this new promotion, the Warmest Week wants to change that. The solidarity campaign will support projects that ensure that everyone, with his or her illness, can fully participate in society.
Annabet Ampofo, known from VRT NWS and Ketnet, thinks that many people recognize themselves in this theme. « Because the list of invisible diseases is long. And the accompanying burdens too. We want to call all Flanders to take action for everyone with an invisible disease. To show them, » Ampofo emphasizes.
Existing or new associations can submit a project to the King Baudouin Foundation from Wednesday. De Warmste Week selects concrete projects via this fund. The selection is done by an independent jury. You can submit projects up to and including Wednesday 18 June.
The Warmest Week takes place from Thursday 18 to Wednesday 24 December in the Limburg city of Genk and can be followed on VRT 1, Studio Brussels, MNM, Ketnet and VRT Max.
