Waffenruhe in Ukraine: New Pause – old demands

The Ukraine, the USA and also the managing federal government reacted to Moscow’s announcement of an ceasefire in the Ukraine War during the Memorial Days at the end of World War II. « If Russia really wants to peace, the fire has to hire it immediately, » wrote the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha on the platform X.

Ukraine is ready to support permanent, stable and complete ceasefire. This should last at least 30 days and not only hold military parade during the Moscow, according to the Ukrainian top diplomat.

The executive Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) referred Putin’s previous announcements on the edge of a visit to the NATO headquarters. « And we know the result: Despite ongoing discussions about an armistice, cities and civil infrastructure were targeted and increasingly attacked in order to frighten the civilian population in fear and terror, » said Pistorius of the German Press Agency in Brussels.

The spokeswoman for the White House, Karoline Leavitt, said that US President Donald Trump is increasingly frustrated about the heads of both countries. In response to the temporary fire break arranged by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, she said Trump made it clear that he wanted to see a permanent ceasefire. He remains optimistic of a peace deal, but both heads of state would have to come to the negotiating table.

Putin arranges fire break to commemorate World War II

Previously, the Kremlin had announced a fire break on its website in the war of attack against Ukraine ordered by the Russian President more than three years ago. From the day of the day of May 8th to the day of the day of May 11, the weapons will be silent.

« During this time, all fighting should rest, » it said. The announcement was initially one -sided. « Russia assumes that the Ukrainian side should follow this example. » Putin cited « humanitarian considerations » as the reason. His spokesman Dmitri Peskow declared the ceasefire a « gesture of good will ». He did not go into the counter -proposal of Ukraine.

For Russia, the memory of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany is an important holiday 80 years ago. On May 9, the Russian day of victory, a large military parade will be held in Moscow. Numerous state guests are expected, including China’s head of state XI Jinping.

Russia is also under pressure to show gestures of good will. Trump wants to reach a quick end of the war and recently accused Moscow of missing people of peace. His administration has threatened to clash as an intermediary if there is no rapid progress.

Russian Foreign Minister confirms maximum claims

In an interview with the Brazilian newspaper « O Globo », Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lawrow had confirmed Moscow maximum demands for the end of the war of aggression against Ukraine. Russia therefore insists that not only the annexed peninsula has been recognized internationally as Russian since 2014 – as media reports proposed by Trump – but also the Ukrainian areas, Luhansk, Donetsk, Saporischschja and Cherson. The neighboring country must remain in the block and should not join NATO, said Lawrow in the interview, which was also published by the Foreign Ministry in Moscow.

Ukraine must be demilitarized and « denilitized », which Moscow understands the insertion of a Russian -friendly government in Kiev. Laws would have to be canceled through which Moscow sees the rights of Russian, culture and church in Ukraine discriminated against.

Lavrov also demanded that western sanctions be lifted against his country and that frozen assets are released. Russia also demands security guarantees against what he called « hostile acts » by NATO, the EU and individual states against his country.

Kremlin spokesman: Waiting for Signal from Kyiv

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow had once again emphasized the alleged willingness to talk to Moscow before the ceasefire arranged – but also explained that the war continued for the time being. You are waiting for a signal Kiev for direct conversations, he said.

He also repeated a well -known demand. He once again pointed out an alleged « legal ban » of negotiations that Ukraine had to abolish. Moscow means a decree of President Wolodymyr Selenskyj from September 2022.

According to the wording, the decree does not prohibit negotiations with Putin, but he declares it impossible in view of the situation at the time. Selenskyj later also said that he was ready to negotiate with Putin if he could create peace and save the life of Ukrainians.
