Vucic addressed after protest in Belgrade
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said tonight that a total of 56 people were injured in the center of Belgrade, but that no one suffered life -threatening injuries.
Vucic said 44 people had sought medical help at the Emergency Center, 11 at Zvezdara Clinical Hospital and one person in Zemun, but no one was seriously injured. He said 22 people were arrested for committing crimes against property and attacking police and other people during the protest.
Vucic said it was a big protest and that a large number of people came from the interior. He expressed satisfaction that there were no injuries, although « a major protest with huge negative energy, anger and outrage to the authorities ».
-I'm proud of the fact that 99% of the protesters who protested did not want incidents. I do not think well of those who violate the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of movement. I do not think well of all their political actions, but I am pleased because I realized that these young people, almost all, do not want to participate in the implementation of measures of violence, strength or anything else. And tonight after the first incidents, of course, after a quarrel and after arguing with the opposition activists who were there, they left the rally and said this was no longer ours when they realized they had no control over the rally – he said.
The address denied that air cannons were used.
