VSP proposed measures to the government to combat obesity to the Russians

The All -Russian Union of Patients (VSP), found out “Kommersant”, asked the government to take additional measures to support patients suffering. We are talking about about 40 million people, according to the Ministry of Health. The Union, in particular, asks the state to pay special attention to women with excess body weight, as this worsens their reproductive function. The Ministry of Health “Kommersant” said that they plan to introduce dispensary observation of patients with obesity of 1-2 degrees. Other VSP initiatives in the department promise to consider with experts.

The All-Russian Union of Patients sent Tatyana Golikova to Deputy Prime Minister aimed at supporting patients with obesity. The Union unites 17 all -Russian and interregional organizations representing the interests of more than 5 million Russians suffering from severe disabled diseases.

SSP asks the government to work at the national level a complex of additional measures to combat obesity. In Russia, according to the Ministry of Health for 2024, there are 40 million people suffering from this disease (27% of the population).

The Union calls on the authorities to introduce a “personalized approach” to the treatment of such citizens: “systematically” to observe patients with metabolic health and in the process to adjust their treatment, so behavior and nutrition.

Separately, the VSP identifies the issue of assistance to women of reproductive age with excess body weight. The union is confident that this category of patients should be priority for the healthcare system – both to increase the birth rate in general and to ensure the healthy development of future generations. “Obesity in women of childbearing age has a critical effect on a decrease in reproductive function, accompanied by a high frequency of anovulation, hyperandrogenic syndrome, and menstrual cycle disorders,” the union says. “The diet of pregnant women has a direct impact on the state of health of the unborn child.” The VSP indicates the need to provide women planning pregnancy with drugs to reduce body weight and increase the availability of bariatric interventions (stomach reduction operations).

The Patient Union also proposes to include in the national project “Long and Active Life” (started on January 1, 2025 and operates until 2030), targeted indicators characterizing the prevalence of obesity. For example, to indicate what the share of the adult population with the body weight (BMI) should be above 30. This index, recall, is calculated by the body mass formula, divided into height (in meters), built in a square. Now there is no such indicator in the national project, but there are others, including increasing the expected life expectancy in Russia to 78 years; An increase to 13.6% of the share of citizens leading a healthy lifestyle.

VSP proposals are already being worked out, including with the involvement of experts, Kommersant said to the Ministry of Health.

At the same time, the department says that the national project “Long and active life” provides for the expansion of the network of health centers for adults: we are talking about special departments at clinics where you can conduct express diagnostics and identify various pathologies in the early stages. “In such centers, medical observation of patients with risk factors will be introduced for the first time, including with excess body mass and obesity of 1-2 degrees,” the Ministry of Health said. “Experts will develop individual programs for a healthy lifestyle, recommend individual healthy diet programs following in -depth preventive consulting.”

If at the level of national healthcare the problem of obesity will pay more attention, then this will affect the health of society as a whole well, according to the head of the FMBA bariatric medicine in Rostov-on-Don, the Slimmer Cofunder Maxim Burikov. At the same time, he believes, it is important that the help of such patients should be personalized in several stages. First you need to focus on a healthy lifestyle, the availability of healthy nutrition and physical activity. Further, when obesity is already developing and preventive methods do not help, refer to drug support and psychotherapy. In cases of morbid obesity (with BMI equal to or more than 40, when, for example, with a growth of 180 cm, the body weight exceeds 133 kg) when conservative methods are ineffective, resort to bariatric surgery.

“Often there is an opinion that if the patient is to blame for his weight, then he should solve his problems on his own,” Mr. Burikov summarizes. “But in the end, these people are faced with the need to replace joints, prescribing drugs to reduce pressure. As a result, society as a whole has significant expenses for the treatment of this category of patients. ” According to the expert, ensuring the accessibility of the treatment of obesity and related diseases will help reduce health care costs in the future.
