Volvo from Lego blocks will stop at the Auto 2025 / Day

Childhood dream

What would you do if 400,000 Lego Constructor blocks came to your disposal? It was in this situation that five years ago, Lego fan David Gustafson came in, winning the Swedish Lego Masters competition. After receiving a 1.2 -tonne Lego block, 20 -year -old David decided to fulfill his childhood dream of making a natural -scale car. The model of the Volvo V70 was taken as the sample.

Initially, the project was planned to devote years to work, but it was clear in the process that the idea was much more complicated and time consuming. Construction is not the only occupation of David, but he was able to free up to 100 hours every week for this project. As a result, it took four years.

Driving vehicle

The car made of Lego blocks is impressive not only with its own gauge but also functionality – it is a real driving vehicle! To achieve this, a pipe frame and a metal sheet floor were used as the basis for the rigidity of the structure. Also, this car has real wheel discs and tires, as well as steering mechanism for maneuvering. Its movement is provided by an electric motor with two -horsepower power. Of course, it makes no sense on the drag racing with « Tesla », but it provides convenient displacement options – both sitting inside and distance. This distinguishes this project from other similar natural car projects from Lego blocks.

Its interior is also worked to the smallest detail and is functional – the car door opens and the lights light up. In other respects, it is almost like a real car – it has electrically adjustable mirrors, swivel climate control switches, and moving other switchers. The author of the project does not deny that the seats made of LEGO plastic cubes are very hard for sitting, so the back of the backrest had to be created so that it was suitable for the comfort of his own back.

Already internationally recognized

If the real third generation Volvo V70 station wagon weighs 1.8 tons, the same gauge vehicle made of Lego blocks weighs almost as 1.6 tons. The project was completed in 2024 and has already been able to participate in some events, including the electric car and related solution at the Ecar Expo in Gothenburg, where it was of great interest to visitors and also recognizes the commune of LEGO enthusiasts. In addition, David Gustafson does not plan to stop at what he has achieved: as the next project, he wants something more impressive and complicated – a natural -scale Swedish supercar « Koenigsegg » made of Lego blocks.

Calls for everyone

This project is not just a dream of David’s childhood, but also a public relations tool for his company « Brickscale », which specializes in the creation of various structures from « Lego » blocks for both companies and private interested. In addition, his company’s website also includes instructions on how to make Lego blocks, for example, a motorcycle, bus or tractor.
