Volvo Cars Personnel Manager about the notification of officials
From Volvo Cars Corporate Management, the message is linked to the expected the reduction and billion saving That it is certainly hard for those directly affected – of which around 1,200 official jobs in Sweden – but that there is no general danger on the roof.
– We believe brightly in our future, but we are in a situation where we need to make some tough decisions, and we know that it is tough message for our employees to receive. But we know that it is necessary to take responsibility for the company’s future, and there we agree with the unions, says Hanna Fager, human resources manager at Volvo Cars.
To DN, she also says that after the reduction of 3,000 services, or « positions » that the company talks about, you are down to the level that Volvo Cars had at the beginning of 2021, before the so -called semiconductor crisis.
How much was this is a trump effect and how much your own need to streamline?
– This is part of our efficiency program, and that is to be able to deliver on the strong ambitions we have as a company. But of course we live and work in a turbulent world and an adaptation to it, which is why we are changing now.
– In recent years, we have learned that it is important that we have an organization that is sustainable in both compassion and setbacks in the long term, where the fluctuations may come faster.
The process of losing staffing should be based on employment time and competence, says Hanna Fager.
What kind of services should be removed? It has been mentioned in the media, for example, that competence to continue to develop your platforms, what is called SPA, can disappear and coordinated with the principal owner Geely.
– We will keep our hub for Volvo Cars here in Gothenburg and ensure that we have expertise to develop platforms and new technology.
You are talking about that « Increase efficiency « In addition to the car construction itself. It is easy to say. Is it realistically reach the new goals with so many fewer?
– It’s a relevant question. We have set up priorities that we will be able to deliver with an organization of the new size. We, like everyone else, look at opportunities with digitalisation, at the number of layers and levels in the organization, the size of our teams and so on.
Does AI play a role in managing the job after the reduction?
– We have invested automation in the past and which we now see that we can start realizing. But overall it is about other working methods, processes, but also adapt to the new priorities, says Hanna Fager.
Not only Gothenburg is affected by the reduction, but also the office in Stockholm and « to some extent » also Lund, according to the human resources manager.
Negotiations are now being started With the official unions and a new staffed organization will be in place this fall. The Academic Association at Volvo Cars has 4,000 members and does not protest against the starting point.
Kristina Tullgren, the chairman of the academic association, says in a comment:
– We understand that the company needs to take action because of the current situation in the industry. At the same time, it is very sad that employees will be affected. Our hope is that after completing the hearing we have a smaller number of concerned.
