Volunteer work in Save the Children Alta
The differences between children are increasing, and too many people experience bullying, exclusion and discrimination. Alta is no exception. Now it is more important than ever to create safe meeting places and good leisure facilities that give children a respite in everyday life.
As a volunteer in Save the Children, you have the opportunity to be part of a movement that works for children's rights and welfare both in Norway and at a global level. Being voluntary here in Alta is not just an opportunity to give back, but a way to shape a better future for children who do not have the same opportunities as us.
Here in Alta we have made a difference for over 200 children during 2024, and we pat ourselves on our shoulders. Among other things, we have been to Sami Siida with reindeer driving, lasso throwing and free play, and performance with flying Seagulls where children and adults together got to experience a fantastic performance with clowns.
For me, volunteer work has not only been about giving time, but also about getting time back. I have been given the opportunity to meet and work with incredibly inspiring people, both the other volunteers here in Alta and employees of the organization. Together, we share a common vision – that no children should grow up without the right to protection, for play and meaningful leisure, to education and a safe upbringing. At the same time, I have developed personally, through challenges and learning that have strengthened me both as a human being and as a volunteer.
Volunteering is about so much more than just giving. There is an opportunity to gain insight into other people's lives and situations, and at the same time help to change these lives for the better. Save the Children gives us this opportunity, and I can't recommend it enough to those who want to contribute to a better world. I myself have seen what difference we can make together – and it is precisely this difference that gives me hope for the future.
I encourage everyone to join the team, regardless of background or experience. There is an investment in both others and in yourself as fellow human
Join the team!
