Vodafone Albania Foundation supports the development of young people’s digital skills in the north
The Vodafone Foundation in Albania has been the main partner in information technology and communication technology (ICT) for more than ten years, by investing in the education of young people and disadvantaged groups, transforming their lives towards increasing digital capacities for the future. For about three years, this foundation marked extraordinary achievements and results in Stem Education, part of the program Generation Next. The purpose of the foundation is to promote ideas and initiatives that use technology and build digital skills.
The next project of the Vodafone Albania Foundation in cooperation with the British Embassy in Tirana, « Support for the Development of Young People’s Digital Ability in North of Albania », aims to give young people more reasons to live and invest in their country, avoiding immigration as an alternative. As the implementer of this project, the Vodafone Foundation in Albania enabled the investment in digital infrastructure for the education and development of training adapted for the needs of young people.
IN 7 schools IN Dibra districtSU set new ICT laboratories, were trained 16 teachers on the Stem methodology, who trained and worked with 128 school children On the same methodology, guaranteeing the creation of projects that respond to social issues through technological solutions. This contribution of the Vodafone Foundation, furthermore, aims to raise awareness of the new opportunities offered to young people in these areas.
Stem is a unique extracurricular education program that helps teachers and students develop digital competencies. Through the above practical approach, students can get acquainted with the stem topics, attend activities, and create their own projects, aimed at addressing and solving community problems.
“For one year the Vodafone Albania Foundation and the British Embassy have been implementing a joint project for young people in northern Albania. We have built in seven schools in Mat, Bulqiza, Klos, Peshkopi, technology laboratories with the highest European standards, for all young people in the area, from 12 to 18, in order to equip them with knowledge in digital education, investing in their future and the community in which they live. The Vodafone Foundation aims to create equal opportunities for all children and students to access digital education”, Said Jonida Nude, Director of Legal Affairs, Public Policy and Foreign Affairs in Vodafone Albania and Chair of the Vodafone Foundation in Albania.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom to our country, Mia Marzouk, added: “We are very happy to be here to help digital training and providing ICT laboratories, which benefit young people in some areas of northern Albania. Young people here are talented and have many innovative ideas, so we hope that equipment and digital education help them build the future in their place. ”
