Vladimir Steinberg / Day for LSFP President
In his address, the newly elected LSFP President Vladimir Steinberg emphasized the need to strengthen the role of the organization as a proactive partner in sports policy development and support for federations. He pointed out that LSFP should be the initiator of specific proposals for public authorities, not just the problem. « The LSFP has to work as a supportive organization, a consultative partner, which can be addressed to the Federation for advice, assistance and cooperation, » Steinberg emphasized. He also marked five priority directions for future work: strengthening sports policy, federations support mechanisms, funding of international events, attracting European funds and implementing good governance. At the same time, he emphasized the goal of achieving thoughtful base funding for all recognized federations, creating fair criteria for the distribution of state aid and strengthening the LSFP as a single platform for the interests of all federations.
Along with the election of new President Vladimir Steinberg, a new board of the Latvian Council of Sports Federation is also starting. It includes experienced sports professionals: Aivis Tints – Head of Liepaja Sports Department, Dina Viksna – Chief of Riga City Council Sports and Youth Department, Deputy Director of Department, Liene Apine – Secretary General of the Latvian Paralympic Committee, Sergey Kovalev – Vice President of the Latvian Football Federation Member, Kārlis Vents – President of the Latvian Rugby Federation, Tom Marks – Member of the Board of the Latvian Cycling Federation and General Secretary General, Kaspars Rožkalns – Member of the Board of the Latvian Sailing Federation, Henry Friedenberg – Member of the Board of the Latvian Judo Federation and Gorbatenkova.
The general meeting was revealed by Alexander Samoilov, Director of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Education and Science, emphasizing LSFP as one of the most important partners of the Ministry of Education and Science in the sports industry and emphasizing the role of the organization as a link between the country, athletes and youth. He also expressed his gratitude to former LSFP President Einars Fogel, emphasizing his long -time contribution to the development of sports: « Einars Fogel was one of those captains that steered Latvian sports ship through thunderstorms and changes. » Samoilov informed that the MoES would promote a proposal for the Cabinet for expressing his gratitude to Einars Fogel for his work for Latvian sports.
In his speech, Edgars Pukinsks, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Development and Change Management, highlighted the need to make changes in the sports industry that would not directly strengthen the development of sports and its effectiveness. He emphasized the need to jointly develop an understanding of sports as a industry that gives and creates a value for Latvia: « In order to see Latvian sports as a industry that not only consumes but also gives – which creates, enhances and strengthens both society and the economy. »
With this general meeting, the long -term and important work of Einar Fogel in the Council of the Latvian Sports Federation – he withdrew his candidacy for the position of board member at the beginning of the general meeting. « Thanks to the members of the LSFP board with whom they have worked with these years. I would like to be especially recognized for the vice presidents – Martins Lazdovsky and Raimonds Vējonis, as well as the LSFP Secretariat team for their professional and responsive cooperation, » Einars Fogelis emphasized.
The general meeting of members, recognizing Einars Fogel’s long -term contribution to the development and management of the Latvian Sports Federation Council, supported the proposal to give him the title of Honorary President of the LSFP. This status is a tribute to his important contribution to the sports community and in the growth of the organization. E. Fogel has been actively involved in the LSFP since 1994, but has been heading the organization as president for the last 12 years.
The new audit commission was also elected at the General Meeting of LSFP members. Jānis Naglis, who received the most support – 78 votes. Māris Liepiņš was also elected with 37 votes and Janis Geduševs, who received 38 votes.
LSFP is an independent association of recognized sports federations in the sports industry, which brings together 94 Latvian -recognized sports federations, including 86 sports and five fields of activity sports federations, three customized sports federation for people with reduced mobility.
