– Visiting contribution must be introduced now
DEBATE: – It will be a good experience for our guests to visit Finnmark, writes Monica Nielsen and Jan Morten Hansen.
Alta municipality, Nordkapp municipality and the West Finnmark Council has unanimous statements where we are positive about visitor contributions.
In our input, we have been positive about the proposal, but at the same time thought it is not complete. The bill should include measures that address the challenges associated with fritamping and motorhome traffic, the development of national guidelines to ensure sustainable use of the natural areas and a national strategy for visitor management.
There have been many input into the case. Ap has now adjusted the proposal and proposes that cruises be covered by the scheme. This is, among other things, some of what we have called for in our input.
Hosting the world presents some challenges. With visitor contributions from those who are most enjoyed by common goods, we will be in a position to handle many of these challenges.
It should be a good experience for our guests to visit Finnmark. But most importantly, we who live here should be left with the best experience. Visiting contributions will help us well on our way to bearing the responsibility that comes with visiting tourists.
The scheme of visitor contributions must be evaluated. It must be possible to adjust the scheme as we see how it hits. It is also positive that the scheme is voluntary to introduce for the municipalities.
On May 27, the Industry Committee submits its recommendation in the case and we expect a majority in this important matter. We have to get started now before it’s too late.
