Violence occurs most often in school corridors and lobby

After more than twenty years, we will get a new national research on peer violence. At the recent international conference, the head of the European project with knowledge of violence in schools (Knowbullying) is dr. Aleš Bučar Ručman from the Faculty of Security Sciences, University of Maribor, presented the first results that show a great presence of violence in schools. The project will design a program to prevent violence, pointing out that they cannot do this on their own. The cooperation of the whole society is essential.

112 Slovenian schools were invited to a national survey on peer violence, which is part of the European project, and 99 responded. 1652 students 7 and 9th grade participated. As explained by dr. Vanja Erčulj from the Faculty of Security Sciences in Maribor, every fourth student was already a victim of violence. The results of Bucar Ručman were not surprised: “We have more than a representative pattern and very detailed information about what is happening in schools. We have treated them for the time being for the needs of an international conference so that we were able to determine the prevalence, so what is the scope of those who encounter violence in schools every week, are 19 percent of children. Sixteen percent say they are committed by violence, and more than 30 percent are observed by violence. «
