Vilius Writing: I fought from the heart

Our country’s handlers failed to win a travel ticket to 2026. European Championship final tournament.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper V. Writing a decisive duel with the Northern Macedonian team (Lithuanians lost 17:26) played less than usual due to his health, with two out of eight rival throws.

During his career, V. Writing has played 82 matches since 2009.

« I played traumatized with Macedonians, and after planning the operation. However, I couldn’t refuse to help the team because I knew what the situation is responsible. I want to thank coach Gintaras Savukynas, who gave me a second chance to return to the team last year. Forms, but I was fighting from the heart, ”V. Writing shared his thoughts on the last match.

According to him, the decision to finish the career in the Lithuanian national team was already mature.

« I am determined: if we do not go to the European Championship final tournament, I will be giving everything to the national team. I haven’t seen another selection tournament because I think there are young men who can take my position. » I will not hide: tears have accumulated in my eyes … I am grateful to my fellow -men for decades spent together, and I have found friends for life. ”

I played only 15 minutes, but I was elected by the best handball player.

When asked about the most memorable career matches, the goalkeeper immediately remembered last year’s European Championship selection duel in Vilnius with Macedonians.

« It was a spectacular victory (Lithuanians won 29:27 – ed.), 1,5 thousand of their own viewers in the grandstands. In the past, there was a good match with the French.

The goalkeeper, who has been playing in Iceland for five seasons, has a year -long contract with the Habnarfjordur Haukar club with which he has traveled to the European Cup quarter -finals this season.

« I will definitely play for the season, later decide what to do next: whether to continue my career, or to hang sneakers on the nail and do other jobs. I am at the crossroads because I discover more things that are not related to handball.

He started his career in Kaunas

V. Writing, who started his career in Kaunas teams « Lūšis » and « Granitas », was elected the best Lithuanian handball goalkeeper for two consecutive years (2011 and 2012).

2013 Started his career as a legionnaire, Azoty-Pulawy (Poland), JS Cheerg, Oissel and Limoges (France), EHV AUE (Germany), Selfoss and Haukar (Iceland) (Iceland) competed.

In 2015, V. Writing with the Azoty-Pulawy team won the Polish Championship bronze.
