Video Tomasevic: ‘Sesvete is missing content, and a new music school is a key spirit of culture’

Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomasevic presented a new project of the Zlatko Grgošević Music School building, which begins the renovation and revitalization of the Sljeme Sesvete complex, which is key to the development of the entire city district and the connection of the Sesvete Center with Novi Jelkovac.

Watch the video:

– Sesvete is the largest city neighborhood of the population and a city neighborhood in which the contents are missing, she has long been neglected, I would say for decades. And in this sense, the Zlatko Grgošević Music School is a key spirit of the culture of the entire Sesvete – Tomasevic said on Saturday after a tour of the works on removing facilities at the former Sljeme factory.

He stated that it had been talked about for a long time that problems with inadequate school capacity should be solved precisely in the complex of the former Factory of the Meat Industry of Sljeme. The first works on the removal of the facilities in the Sljeme complex have already begun this week, and the City has initiated a public procurement procedure for the preparation of project documentation of the reconstruction of the so -called. Cubes, a key symbol of the factory, which will be housed by a new music school.

The investment is framework at 18 million euros, which will be funded from the city budget, and the aim is to create top conditions for music education about 600 students who currently attend four different locations.

The school will have 5000 square meters and as many as 65 classrooms, 46 of which will be for individual classes given that it is a music school, 14 for group teaching and five for general educational subjects, and will have a bodily hall.

– Finally came the day when we will say that what we have been waiting for for years, generations and generations of children of the Zlatko Grgošević and Sesvete Music School. This is a building that has long been abandoned and useless and I believe it will become our music school very quickly – said Principal Ljerka Pasalic.

The revitalization of the Sljeme complex at the same time includes other wider, parallel process – the production and adoption of the urban planning plan (UPU), which will be predicted by other public facilities needed by Sesvete.

– It will probably be a police station, a court, some other public institutions, maybe some apartments for affordable rent, sports content, parks, recreation, all that is necessary for Sesvete, because the center is also gravitated here by a lot of people – said the mayor.

Considering the necessary procedures involving the participatory process to define these content, Tomasevic stated that the process would go more slowly. He added that there were also interviews with HZ around the inadequate crossing over the railway to make a promenade to connect the center of Sesvete and Novi Jelkovec, which was built without any content and cut off from the center.
