Pope Lav XIII., Born as Vincenzo Gioacchino Raffaele Luigi Pecci March 2, 1810, was 256. Head of the Catholic Church. Lion XIII. He insisted that faith and science can exist harmoniously. In this spirit, he re -established the Vatican Observatory and, which is extremely important, decided to open the Vatican apostolic archive to qualified researchers, thereby providing deeper insight into the history of the Church. He strongly encouraged the study of Thomas of Aquinas, contributing to the renewal of Tomistical theology. His efforts were aimed at approaching church thinking of the challenges of the 20th century.

As a skilled diplomat, Lav XIII. He was able to improve the relations of the Church with great world forces, including Russia, Germany, France, Italy, the United States and the UK. His positive engagement with the eastern Orthodox churches is also significant. An important administrative move was the establishment of a church hierarchy in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1881, with the establishment of the Archdiocese of Vrhbosna with its headquarters in Sarajevo.
