Video Habijan: ‘Artukovic Kunsta knows the problem, but I have not heard the specific solutions from her’
Justice Minister Damir Habijan said on Thursday that the judge of the Zagreb County Court Sandra Artuković Kunsta, which the President of the Republic would propose as the Supreme Court, knew the issues, but added that he had not heard specific solutions to the challenges in the system.

On Thursday, the Parliamentary Committee on the Supreme Court – Artuković Kunsta and Silvija Sunčani Stubičar, listened to the Parliamentary Committee on the Supreme Court -, while the third candidate Sime Savic was prevented from a dedicated hearing in Split and did not receive a new appointment from the Committee. The Committee did not support any of the candidates for the president of the Supreme Court.
– What I could see today from the candidate’s presentation, and above all I mean Artuković Kunšt – I see that he knows the issue, but I have not really heard specific solutions to solve these challenges or problems in the judiciary – Habijan told reporters after the Government session, answering the question of whether most in Parliament will support the president’s proposal.

He stated that she had received one voice « for » while the others were against, not only HDZ and coalition partners, noting that the SDP did not appear at the session, nor supported the candidate.
– We will see, obviously they were not impressed with any candidate, and as far as the Parliament, or the ruling majority, allow, after the official proposal of the President and the negative opinions from the general session of the Supreme Court and now the Committee, the HDZ with its coalition partners agreed on the matter – said Habijan.
The Zagreb County Court sentenced former Minister Gabrijela Žalac for two years in prison for overcoming software for the Ministry of Regional Development and European Funds she was headed. The Office of the European Public Prosecutor (EPPO) in Zagreb emphasized that the verdict was the result of the agreement, since Žalac recognized the guilt and paid 200,000 euros in the name of a partial compensation.

Asked for comment on the appropriateness of the sentence, the minister emphasized that it was a settlement and that he did not want to go into an agreement between the EPPO and the defendant, or the decision of the court that confirmed such a settlement.
– When we look at the settlement as an institute, it makes no sense to prioritize anyone, liberate him or give him a minor punishment. The meaning of the settlement is to accelerate and to make the procedure more effective. As you know, there is not only the suspected of this procedure, there are more – said Habijan. In doing so, he added that EPPO knew best for what reason he was for such an agreement.
Asked if there is any responsibility of the Government, or Prime Minister Plenkovic, Habijan said that no one can know for all his employees what they are doing and that « he does not say to anyone at the helm » that he is inclined to commit a crime.
