It was almost a movie scene in the middle of a white day. It all took place about a hundred meters from the Police Directorate and the County Court. The robber fell into the office, pulled a gun and took a hostage security guard. He approached the bag with employees and asked for money. They handed it to him in fear. Witnesses say the shootings were heard inside the bank, and soon police arrived in the place, who were on patrol at that moment. The noise began, the shots echoing the road, and then silence. The robber fell dead into the bushes near the bank. An ambulance came soon, which could only determine that the man was dead. Police fenced the whole street with a tape, inspectors arrived, traffic jams arose.

On the faces of nearby tenants, who found themselves on the street, fear and panic were seen.
« Everything happened in a second, we didn’t know what was happening until we heard shots, » a witness told us, who found himself not far from the bank while a police investigation lasted.
He paused a little, so he continued on everything he testified:
– I was the end of the court, I was just going to pay something to the bank account. Suddenly I heard shots, but first I thought they were firecrackers. When I turned, I saw a police vehicle and a police officer shooting. Several shots were heard. Some man passed, but I didn’t see who. Later, I realized that everything was over, there was no more shooting or resistance. I’m sorry this man, I don’t know who he is or what he is, I didn’t see him well. All I know is that he and the bank security guard were there. It all happened in an instant, I didn’t even get to understand what was going on.

When the shootings echoed in Gunduliceva Street, which was located in the center of Split, a large panic was created. People began to flee to the County Court.
– I heard shots and saw people starting to run to court. It seemed to me as if the robber had something on his head, a mask or something – another witness to this unfortunate event told us.
A terrible shooting was heard in a nearby elementary school. Thanks to a quick and attached reaction of the director Mirjane Dodig, The Dobra Elementary School in Split remained a safe haven for students at moments, while a bank robbery took place nearby. After finding out the director of a terrible incident, she contacted the police looking for instructions. She was told that students had to stay at school until new security information arrived. Teachers and students have announced through the announcement that they have an extraordinary situation and that they cannot leave the school space until further notice, the Dalmatian portal reports.
During this time, police were conducting an investigation to determine all the circumstances of the bloody robbery of the bank. And was managed by the Deputy County State Attorney Rene Laura. She pointed out that police officers from the Criminal Police Sector collaborated on the investigation.

The robber who robbed Erste Bank in Split had only one wound on his head, but the autopsy would show if he had judged himself or was killed by a police bullet.
– He broke into the bank with a nylon bag and threatened with a gun to employees to hand him money. Sam banged him into a bag, then took the security guard as hostage, ”Laura said.

– We have witnessed the incredible courage of two police officers and security guards at the bank, to whom I thank and I want to express our support this way. The whole of Split is proud of them. The safety of our citizens is of the greatest importance for all of us. We have been extremely shaken by news of the bank robbery in the center of Split. I immediately called the Chief of the Police Directorate, provided the words of support and made available the City of Split to disposal for any help – said the mayor.
We contacted Erste Bank, who answered us that she would take all the necessary measures to help her employees recover from this traumatic event.
– In the case of armed robbery, the bank employees were ordered to take care of their safety primarily and do nothing that could endanger their lives. Unfortunately, there is no protective measure that would guarantee absolute safety and prevention of armed decays. However, Erste Bank continuously does everything in its power to reduce the number of such cases to the smallest possible measure – they said.
