Vicky Krieps is leaving the « Un Certain Regard » competition empty

On Friday evening the time had come: The first central prizes were awarded at the Croisette-including the awards in the « Un Certain Regard » series, in which a drama with the Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps also competed.

Even if Krieps or rather the film « Love Me Tender », in which they play the leading role, were given opportunitiesneither the project nor Krieps’ performing performance were recognized. The “Grand Prix” of the competition series was awarded to Diego Cévedes for his first game film “La Misteriosa Mirada del Flamenco”.

The thriller « Once Upon A Time in Gaza » by Arab and Tarzan Nasser secured the award for the best director. The two directors dedicated the award to all Palestinians and expressed their hope that Palestine would soon be free. Standing ovation of the hall followed.

The actors’ awards went to Cléo Diara (in « O Riso Ea Faca » by Pedro Pinho) and Frank Dillane (in Harris Dickson’s debut film « Undin »). The film « Pillion » by Harry Lighton was awarded the price for the best script. « Un Poeta » by Simón Mesa Soto received the jury’s price.

The hopes for an award to the Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps were great: In the social drama « Love Me Tender » selected for the series by the French director Anna Czenave Cambet, Krieps embodies a mother named Clémence who breaks out of her marriage, her old life and is looking for herself. She discovers her homosexuality and wants to live as an author. At the same time, she is fighting for her son’s custody because the father sabotages the mother-child relationship. The lifestyle of his ex-wife resists him.

Schauspiel stars with a directorial debut

« Love Me Tender » is the second feature film by Anna Czenave Cambet and is based on Constance Debré’s novel of the same name. Vicky Krieps is not just the main actress. She co -produced the film about her Viktoria Productions, founded in Luxembourg in 2022.

The secondary series of the main competition recognizes a more original and daring cinema, which is characterized by its narrative style or staging. Often unknown or little -known filmmakers are awarded.

In 2025 the prices also decided the jury specially occupied for the series: the director, screenwriter and camera frame Molly Manning-Walker from the United Kingdom stood the committee this year. Other members were Louise Courvoisier (director and screenwriter from France), Vanja Kaludjercic (head of the Rotterdam International Film Festival, which comes from Croatia), Roberto Minervini (director, screenwriter and producer from Italy) as well as Argentinian actor Nahuel Perez Biscayart.

Among other things, the director’s debut of the actresses Scarlett Johansson and Kristen Stewart and the actor Harris Dickinson were nominated. Here is the list of the series at a glance:
