Veterinary control on the State Roads / Day will be implemented as the mouth and nail plague approaching the Latvian border

He emphasized that veterinary controls differ from border controls and the national border will not be closed in this case.

Krauze pointed out that an action plan has been developed to restrict mouth and nail disease, which will be responsible for the Food and Veterinary Service (FVS) in direct cooperation with the State Police (VP) and the State Border Guard (VR).

The Action Plan involves the introduction of such controlls to the disease, for example, in Lithuania. On the other hand, when the disease appears in Latvia, the restriction zones of various levels will be identified, including rigid areas in which foreign vehicles will be prohibited, the minister explained.

Krauze pointed out that at present the disease is only informative, but when the disease appears in the territory of Poland, the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) will discuss with the FVS on further action in connection with the introduction of a veterinary border control and disinfectant gate placement.

He also mentioned that there are currently about 15 mobile disinfection equipment in Latvia, but there are no disinfection gates, so the MoA has prepared a demand for obtaining funds from the state budget program « Funds for Contingency ».

Currently, the FVS is continuing to negotiate with the VP and the VR on the risk of disease in the event of a risk.

The draft order prepared and led by the MoA shows that the FVS is planned to allocate up to € 261,000 from the State Budget Program « Contingency Funds » so that the service can purchase four mobile road disinfection equipment for limiting the spread of mouth and nail plague.
