Since 11 am there has been a lot of traffic nuisance in our country, especially around Antwerp, Brussels and in West Flanders, after various incidents on the road. « Although it looks like we are over the peak, » said Bruyninckx.

« It is actually a typical Friday, » he notes. « The morning rush hour was not too bad with some 100 kilometers of traffic jams, but during the morning you saw the weekend traffic increase rapidly, people already left during the day to enjoy the warm weather on the coast, for example. The traffic jams continued to increase until 4.30 pm, but even now it is still very busy. »

« We also had quite a few incidents because it was so busy, especially around Antwerp, » said the spokesperson. At the moment, the left -hand lane was blocked in the direction of Antwerp on the E19 by an accident in Kontich.

« Another incident that made itself feel this afternoon occurred on the E403 towards Bruges. We saw a traffic jam of 10 kilometers there at a certain moment, » says Bruyninckx. At Ruddervoorde a car has completely burned out there. Around 2.30 pm the vehicle started smoking while driving. The motorist decided to place the car aside. A few minutes later a sea of ​​flames arose.

The fire brigade arrived on the spot to extinguish the fire, but could not prevent the car from being completely lost. During the extinguishing works, the traffic could pass through a lane. There were no injuries. The highway has since been cleared.
