Venko Krstevski, selected as Acting Mayor of Kocani

Councilor Venko Krstevski was elected today as Acting Mayor of the Municipality of Kocani. Krstevski’s bid with nine votes was supported by SDSM councilors and abstained by Levica adviser. Members of the VMRO-DPMNE Council added their support to their coordinator Goce Markov.

Voting took place in two laps, with the first of the legal provisions that the mayor of the total number of council members was elected-19. In the individual voting, both candidates received eight votes each, given that councilor Kristina Atanasova Arsova from VMRO-DPMNE did not resign. That is why it went to a second round of voting when the choice was made by a simple majority of the councilors present. In the repeated individual voting, councilor Krstevski received nine votes, and his opponent Mrkkov received eight votes.

After the election of the Acting Mayor, Krstevski thanked for the support and stressed that in the next six months the local elections would work on the rehabilitation of the city after the great tragedy and the more efficient functioning of the institutions.

Members of the Council of the Municipality of Kocani today elected c. Mayor because Mayor Ljupco Papazov resigned and is one of the suspects in the fire at the Pulse disco that killed 61 people and injured more than 200.

At the 62nd session of the Kocani Council candidacy for Acting Mayor was submitted by councilor Venko Krstevski, elected by a group of voters, while VMRO-DPMNE was nominated by the co-ordinator of the advisory group Goce Markov. Candidates for Acting The mayor had brief explanations for their candidacies, after which a series of personal discredit and insults were presented at the session. Therefore, the President of the Council Lazo Mitev gave a one -hour break, after which he voted for the proposals.

VMRO-DPMNE adviser Kristina Atanasova Arsova resigned at the session. He explained that he did not have such a political crackdown, especially as she herself is affected because her child is one of the injured in the fire in the Pulse disco.

The SDSM councilors, who expressed their readiness not to act politically in the next period, also held a press conference. They will support the Acting Mayor and will not highlight their proposals for managers of municipal institutions and enterprises.

Before Atanasova Arsova’s resignation, the Kocani Municipality Council had 19 members, nine of which were from VMRO-DPMNE, eight from SDSM, one independent and one from the left.
