Vatican shares details and funeral date of the Pope
Pope Francis’ funeral ceremony will take place on Saturday morning at 10:00 am, 09h in Lisbon, in St. Peter’s Square, the Vatican announced on Tuesday after the Meeting of the Congregation of Cardinals.
At this moment, Pope Francis’ coffin is still at Santa Marta’s house, but will move to St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday.
The ceremony starts at 9am, minus one hour in Lisbon. After a moment of prayer, the procession will pass through Santa Marta Square and the Roman Protomártire Square, will leave in St. Peter’s Square and enter the Basilica through the central door, according to the Vatican statement.
After the Liturgy of the Word, in the Basilica of St. Peter, the pilgrims will be able to pay tribute to Pope Francis.
The ceremony will be chaired by Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, the church’s camerlengo, who announced the Pope’s death on Monday.
On Saturday is the funeral in St. Peter’s Square that will be attended by several heads of state and government, as well as the many pilgrims who want to make a last tribute to Francis.
After the funeral, the coffin will be transferred to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maior, in the center of Rome, where the Pope will be buried, as was his desire.
