On Friday, May 9, it was also reported that the official inauguration of the Leon XIV pontificate will take place on Sunday, May 18. The ceremony will start at 10 on Saint Peter’s Square. In turn, the first general audience of the new pope was scheduled for Wednesday, May 21.
Vatican. Leon XIV left the current management
A special press release of the Holy See press office announced:
His Holiness Leon XIV expressed his will that the bosses and members of the institution of the Roman Curia as well as secretaries and chairman of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican State to temporarily continue their functions.
This decision means that despite the formal expiry of the seats – as provided for in the provisions of the Apostolic Constitution, Universi Dominici Gregis – The current superiors will not leave their positions immediately. This constitution, adopted by John Paul II, clearly stipulates that with the death of the Pope, the fines of dykaster superiors and many other Vatican organs expire. However, the new pope has the right to appoint them again or appoint successors.
