Vasil Terziev: Change cannot be done with populism, sharp turns and strong words
« Change cannot happen with populism and sharp turns, but with consistency, resilience and patience. Sofia does not change with strong words of press conferences, but with everyday, difficult, sometimes invisible but meaningful work. »
This was answered by Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev regarding today’s statement of Save Sofia, during which the Boris Bonev Party announced that he was leaving the ruling coalition to the Sofia City Council (SOC), pointing out as the main reason that Terziev did not comply with the coalition agreement between « Save Sofia. »
« I respect the right of every political force to express its positions and to follow the path it considers to be the right. The decision of Save Sofia to withdraw from the management coalition is their choice, but also a serious responsibility to the Sofia citizens – because citizens expect not conflicts but results.
In his position, Terziev does not specifically answer any of the Save Sofia’s problems that made them leave the coalition. According to Bonev, the budget of the capital looked a lot like those prepared during the time of Yordanka Fandakova (GERB), with money directed to certain infrastructure projects and there was no investment in parks and in inter -block spaces.
« Save Sofia » left the ruling coalition in the capital
« There is no revision of GERB’s reign, and this was the first marker for the new mayor’s work. For this reason, people forgot what it is like to manage GERB, » said Bonev, adding that the choice of Bogdan Panayotova as the chief architect was a catalyst for the decision of « Save Sofia », because « this choice is a sentence for Sofia, » Interests.
In addition, according to Bonev, the decisions in the Sofia Municipality are taken from « hidden centers of power », with Terziev listened to people from his election headquarters, which he appointed as his advisers. Bonev pointed to Adriana Popova, head of Terziev’s election headquarters, as well as others who actually decide what to happen in the municipality, not the municipal councilors from the coalition and deputy mayors.
For his part Terziev says he was chosen « with a clear term – to bring a long -term change in the way Sofia is managed, » which included:
- more transparency and accountability in the work of the administration;
- reform of the public procurement process and more effective use of public funds;
- Focus on neighborhoods and daily problems of people;
- modernization of urban infrastructure;
- development of sustainable and affordable public transport;
- Clear, greener and more tidy Sofia.
Terziev appointed Bogdana Panayotova as chief architect of Sofia
He admits that the pace of work did not always meet expectations. « Самият аз също бих искал много от нещата да се случват по-бързо. Но нека не забравяме – проблемите, които се опитваме да решим, са се натрупвали повече от 20 години. И те не могат да бъдат премахнати за една година с магическа пръчка. Ние нямаме мнозинство в СОС. Затова подхождаме отговорно – без да обещаваме невъзможното, а като планираме, действаме и носим отговорност », коментира кметът и допълва, че София имала нужда от Partnership, but « not from a political criticism competition ».
« And let’s not forget – both citizens and history will judge who really works for the interests of the city and who serves economic or party dependencies. This will make it most clearly at any vote in the SOC – on the budget, on the investments in the neighborhoods, on the topics of the people. him, « Terziev’s position ends.
