Vasil Jovanov pleads guilty of Frosina Kulakova’s trampling

Vasil Jovanov, suspected of the crime of « serious offenses against human safety and property » for a January traffic accident on the Partizanski Odredi Boulevard in Skopje in which Frosina Kulakova lost his life, pleaded guilty to the Basic Criminal Court today.

Defendant Vasil Jovanov, who is a full -time student and was brought in prison, told the court that he understands the crime he is accused of and pleaded guilty.

– First of all I want to express the deepest condolences to the whole family and to apologize for what I have done. I could have never even thought of such a thing. I am guilty of guilty – said Jovanov.

In the courtroom, the parents and sister of the tragically deceased Frosina, as well as the parents of the defendant Vasil, were present.

Attorney General Aleksandar Markovski said in an introductory speech that in this case it is not an ordinary traffic accident, not because of the media pump, but because of the fact of the way it was done, in terms of the large number of offender traffic and the tragically lost life of the young Frosina.

– These circumstances have led the indictment to summarize in the most severe form. In order to prove, four forensics have been obtained, including particularly malled traffic technical, eight witnesses and other material evidence, including notifications of other traffic offenses – said Markovski.

The prosecutor also pointed to the new situation after filing the indictment, pointing out that the defendant was convicted, for which he submitted a copy of a certificate from the court of 7 May 2025.

« The prosecution will try to prove that the defendant has committed other offenses such as a zigzag driving, crossing two lanes, but are not relevant from the criminal sense of the damage, but are relevant to prove the intention, » the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor announced that the second party of the indictment should specify, in one provision, instead of Article 317, paragraph 1, to be Article 225, paragraph 1 of the Law on Traffic Safety, emphasizing that this is necessary why the spirit of the law requires a distinction when there is a driver but does not own it.

The lawyer of the damaged Darko al -Blana, ahead of property damage and that they are joining criminal prosecution.

Frosina’s mother, Camelia Kulakova, said she was not just a mother who lost her child, but a man with a strained soul.

– Today I am Frosina’s voice because she cannot speak. Tell me which word of the law can describe this and describe the pain I have. This is not a trial for a traffic accident, this is a trial for robbery life and the future. I’m looking for the highest punishment not for revenge, but justice – she said.

Vasil Jovanov, lawyer, lawyer Sasko Dukovski, asked the court to get away, as he said, a big false for the now defendant Vasil, that he was a drug addict, stressing that he was an athlete.

– Vasil is an athlete and I submit a confirmation of boxing club membership, medals and gratitude. I also provide confirmation from the Handball Federation that Vasil is a licensed player for RK Spring 62 for the 2021-22 year-said Dukovski.

Dukovski also emphasized that they do not dispute the presence of alcohol in the blood, but that there is no drug presence in the forensic. « The court can determine this in the forensic examination – said Dukovski.

Judge Snezana Markovska informed at the beginning of today’s hearing that six witnesses were not present due to the disorderly invitation.

According to the indictment, on January 29, 2025, Vasil Jovanov, without a driving license and under the influence of alcohol, was driving a vehicle at a speed of 91 kilometers per hour on the Partizanski Odredi Boulevard in Skopje. At a pedestrian crossing, in a red light, he struck Frosina Kulakova, who passed the green light for pedestrians. From the force of the impact, Frosina sustained serious bodily injuries and died on the spot. Jovanov is sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crime charged.

Meanwhile, the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office Skopje also filed an indictment against Vasil’s father, Zoran Jovanov, for the crime of « causing general danger » referred to in Article 288 paragraph 4 in relation to paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
The indictment refers to the period from 04.11.2022 to 30.01.2025, in which Zoran Jovanov allowed his son Vasil Jovanov to operate a Peugeot 207 passenger motor vehicle, although he knew that the son had no driver’s license and was a multiple car accident.
