Van Vroonhoven does not want to become the leader of NSC

Nicolien van Vroonhoven does not want to become the leader of NSC in the upcoming elections. That is what the politician writes on Saturday evening on X. The new leader of the party states that she could not give the campaign the commitment she would like and therefore abandon it. Van Vroonhoven will remain active in the Lower House for the time being.

Van Vroonhoven calls her decision « anything but simple, but I suspect that it will not come entirely unexpected for some of you. » She adds that in recent years « special », but also « heavy ».

Van Vroonhoven took over the party leadership from Pieter Omtzigt a few weeks ago, when he announced that he would leave the politics in The Hague due to a burnout.

« My goal was to bring NSC back to the base again, to the substantive core for which NSC was established. In addition, I would have liked to focus on the root of the party in society, on the further expansion and activation of our membership, » said Van Vroonhoven’s statement. According to her, a possible lower seat number would have been no reason to refrain from the party leader.

« Incidentally, the current way of making politics did not sit in the cold clothes. I would like to see people giving each other a bit more at this time, » says Van Vroonhoven.

Member of Parliament Diederik Boomsmaliet announced on Friday that he would be interested in the NSC party leader. He wrote that A message on X. The 46-year-old NSC member has been in the Lower House since last year. Before the party was founded, Boomsma worked as a party chairman in the Amsterdam City Council on behalf of the CDA.
