Five problems, one project – announces traffic changes in the center Bratislava Mayor Matúš Vallo.

One of the most striking is the complete union of Dunajská Street. At present, it is only one -way in the section from Rajská to SNP Square.

The inhabitants of Cemetery and Grössling should therefore be prepared for an increased transit. When Dunajská is a one -way, drivers will probably use these two streets to move between the bus station and the city center.

In addition, there will also be a pedestrian crossing at the Mlynske Niva and Karadzičova and turning lane. Measures should reduce the accident in the section.

A little further towards the center on the street on 29 August, they will reduce the number of parking spaces to create a turning lane to Cemetery.

The municipality plans to start the announced changes in April.

« The expected termination is during the summer, but to determine the exact date of termination of the work is due to the considerable scope of the work and the necessary continuity of the individual administrative and implementation stages of repairs complicated to determine, » says the city spokesman Peter Bubla.

How much it will cost. The city will only know the exact amount after the end of the project documentation and the selection of the supplier. The municipality also wants to replace asphalt on the road and stone tiles on the sidewalks.

Fewer parking spaces and accidents

The changes will be the first to touch the street on August 29. At the intersection with Cintorínská Street, where columns are formed, there will be a left turning lane.

There is not enough space on the street at present, because cars are parking on the road. The municipality wants to reduce parking, but residents will not lose all places.

The sloping parking spaces on the west side of the street opposite the Greek Catholic eparchial office, which are marked partially on the sidewalk and road, will turn into parking belts. Parking here will be longitudinally.

The limitation of parking to Cintorínská is not yet considered at the municipality. The street remains unchanged.

On the streets Dunajská – Rajská – Cintorínska – Ul. On August 29, trolleybuses are also driving. The route will be maintained even after the introduction of changes, said Jozef Vozár, a spokesman for the Bratislava Transport Company.

« After the union of Dunajska, the Night line route N61 will change, which should operate as well as trolleybuses, through Cemetery, » adds Bubla.

There will be no need to extend or reload the trolley line.

« In the section of the so -called Malé Niva and the intersection of the street on August 29 and Dunajska, the management will be slightly moved – only minor small adjustments, without the need for relocation of trolleybus lines or masts, » Bubla said.

The problem of running pedestrians across the road at the crossroads of Karadžičová and Mlynské Nív on the side closer to the Ondrej cemetery and the streets of the small market will also be solved. There will be a passage in the section.

In addition to the passage, a two -way separate cycle route from Dunajská is designed. It will connect to the existing at the bus station, which lead to the city center, Ružinov and Petržalka.

Right at the intersection there will be a left turning lane from Mlynské Nív to Karadžičov. There were often accidents on the spot.

Safer Danube, more busy cemetery

Cyclists will go from the bus station along a separate cycle route throughout the Danube, in both directions. The route will replace the lane, which will disappear by the union of the street.

Now Dunajská is only one -way in the section from Rajská to SNP Square. This section of flag without change. Drivers from Paradise to Mlynské Nivy after implementation of the project will only get in the direction of the bus station.

Parking spaces will not disappear on the street. There will be parking belts, which should be spatially more efficient than current sloping parking.

Vallo promises to increase security and comfort for residents from the union of « legendary street » as he called Dunajská. According to the city, Dunajska, 30 percent of cars in the direction from Mlynské Niva to the street on 29 August, is only passing.

« For example, 539 cars will pass in this direction at 7.45 – 8.45 pm, » says Bubla.

In this way, the city dealt with transit traffic even in the case of Vajanské nábrežie, where it canceled one lane in both directions and replaced it with separate cycling routes.

According to the municipality, unionization should not negatively affect traffic in the locality. Based on survey and microsimulations, Bubla claims that the driving hours in the rush hour should not be worse than today and through the intersection of Mlynské Niva and the street on August 29 an hour will pass the same number of cars.

“In principle, the number of cars on Grössling and Cemetery should only increase, and drivers will find a route that will suit them best. However, if the city does not solve the problem of transport systemically, the transit will move from one street to another, ”says Martin Šulek, working at the Faculty of Transport of Prague, Prague.

For example, Šancová also has a problem with transit, where the problem will be solved by the intra -Téeský bypass through Jarošová and Pražská Street. He could thus be able to relieve Šancová, whose inhabitants against excessive transport write petitions. The project is only mentioned in the level that the city has no money for it.

The city wants to continue the revitalization of Dunajská, which began in 2022.

On the street they should be paved by a sidewalk from Lazaretska to the street on August 29, a raised passage at the puppet theater will be created, a furnishings will be added. At elementary school and grammar school, the city will complement the new parking belts and move the passage so that the cars do not go to the school area.

Dunajská cut off the plans?

« The union of Dunajska is not in accordance with the plan of the establishment of a new final stop of the trolleybus, which was to be created in close proximity to tram stops, » comments Šulek, adding that the current location of the final in Paradise is unsatisfactory.

The city also thinks that the location of the final stop at the paradise is unsatisfactory. In 2021 it planned to move the final closer to the center of the tram. This was to happen as part of the Live Square project, which Vallo has been talking about since its first election in 2018.

« This means that the plan will have to be revised or canceled, » Šulek continues.

According to the original plans, the route was supposed to run along Paradise to the center, where there are trams stops, and from there back to the Špitálská and Paradise. People coming from the outskirts of the city and the bus station would not have to walk approximately 400 meters to the center.

The project was to be completed this year. Last year the portal about architecture ASB He informed that there was a « sobering » at the municipal council. The project should be implemented during the years 2025 to 2035.
