USR deputy, about the Magistrate Pensions Project
USR deputy Oana Țoiu said on Tuesday that the draft pensions of the magistrates in the parliamentary debate is unconstitutional and leaves ‘a gate’ so that some pensions will be higher than the payments.
The project on the pensions of the magistrates, initiated by the leaders of the ruling coalition, received a report of adoption from the Commission for the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday.
‘The amendments we have submitted, coordinated by my colleague Deputy Alin Stoica, are meant to place this law in the constitutional line.
What is happening now is that we have 230 million euros from PNRR blocked because Romania has failed to meet the milestone that provides for the elimination of special pensions and excesses in the future, which at this time allow a special pension higher than the payment salary.
The law we now have on the table, signed by the leaders of the ruling coalition, is from our point of view an electoral trick because it already has errors that make it explicitly unconstitutional ‘, said Oana Țoiu, at the Parliament Palace.
She added that USR believes that a special pensions reform is needed, but the project initiated by the coalition leaders ‘mimics this intention to gradually remove from special pensions’.
‘Instead, he tries the same thing that the same governing coalition was done and in the previous law, namely to present in Brussels a adopted law, which, in fact, falls to the Constitutional Court as unconstitutional and does not solve anything in the system. (…) It remains to consult with colleagues for tomorrow’s plenary vote. The USR vote has always been in the direction of the principle of contributivity.
At the same time, we strongly believe that it is not fair for any of the Romanian pensioners to have pensions higher than the salary you have in payment when you work. And, unfortunately, this law leaves this portion that certain pensions are bigger, because they have not accepted our amendments, « explained Ţoiu.
