Use natural ingredient as they ‘hate’

Fortunately, Josh Novell, a garden expert at Polhill Garden Center, has revealed a simple and natural solution to keep wasps away from both your garden and your meals. All you need is a natural ingredient for a few bucks – and you probably already have it in the kitchen.

« Garlic is a surprisingly effective remedy for wasps. The strong odor overwhelms the senses of the wasps and makes them naturally escape. It is safe, cheap and easy to use, » explains Josh.

There are three ways you can use the smelly ingredient to get rid of the wasps in the garden.

« Place chopped garlic in a small bowl near outdoor seating or food. Fill a spray bottle with water and 1-2 teaspoons of garlic powder. Shake well and spray around terraces, doors and trash cans. Or consider growing garlic in flower beds or jars, » he says.

Many people first have to put a glass of marmalade or sugary water rather than lure the wasps away – but Josh warns that it can actually make the problem worse.

« Sweet traps can attract wasps from the neighborhood and increase the activity instead of reducing it. You inadvertently lure them, » says Josh.

But if you do not like the garlic scent in your outdoor oasis, there are other natural and cheap ways to keep the wasps away.

« Burning coffee grounds is a great way to scare the wasps away. Just put some dry coffee grounds in a heat -resistant bowl and turn it on as incense, » he says.

« Fresh mint or peppermint oil can also work really well. The wasps hate the scent, so put a few mint twists on the table or dip peppermint oil around door frames. »

« And of course: Always remember to wipe up and cover food and drink when eating outdoors. Even a half -empty glass can quickly attract them. »
