USA. Former Military accused of planning attack on behalf of the Islamic State
A former US National Guard member was arrested for allegedly planned a shooting to a military base in the state of Michigan. The attack would be in the name of the Jihadist group, Islamic State.
Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, 19, residing in Melvindale, Michigan, is accused of trying to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al Sham, and to distribute information related to a destructive device.
In a statement, the head of the National Security Division of the Justice Department (DJ), Sue Bai, said Said is accused of « planer a deadly attack against an American military base » for the jihadist group.
According to the DJ, Said will have allegedly recruited two accomplices to perform a mass shooting at the US Army facilities in Warren, Michigan. In fact, the accomplices were disguised agents.
The young man will have allegedly arranged the ammunition and the chargers for the attack, and remotely controlled a drone over the site for recognition.
Said was arrested this Tuesday, the day scheduled for the attack. The defendant may face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for each accusation.
