USA collect tariffs from 25 percent to all beer imports – Diepresse.com

Just a few hours before the speech in which US President Donald Trump wants to announce new tariffs for trading partners, the US Ministry of Trade announces further tariffs for beer imports.

The US government has announced tariffs of 25 percent on all beer imports. The Ministry of Commerce announced this on Wednesday in the US federal indicator as part of an expansion of already announced surcharges on aluminum products. In addition, empty aluminum doses are now also recorded by the measures that should apply from Friday at 0.01 a.m. (US East Coast period; 6.01 a.m. CEST).

In the document, the general customs code for « beer from Malz » is listed, without a subcode for beer imports in glass bottles. A request from the Reuters news agency at the Ministry of Commerce for the announcement initially remained unanswered.

Further tariffs and counter -tariffs should come

The measure would be a considerable blow to beer imports, which, according to data from the US statistics office, were more than $ 7.5 billion (6.95 billion euros) in 2024. By far the most imports came from Mexico with $ 6.3 billion, followed by the Netherlands with $ 683 million, Ireland with $ 192 million and Canada with $ 73 million. Imports from Germany made $ 70.3 million. The tariffs on aluminum products had already been announced. The expansion was now known a few hours before US President Donald Trump should announce new extensive tariffs against various trading partners. It was expected that they would react with counter -tariffs.

US car tariffs apply from Thursday morning

In the United States Official Journal, the exact data for the entry into force of the auto tariffs of 25 percent were also announced. These should apply on Thursday at 00.01 a.m. (US East Coast period; 6.01 a.m. CEST), according to the Federal Register. The surcharges to auto parts at the same height should therefore be effective on May 3 at the latest. (APA/ Reuters)
