As reported by representatives of the State Police during the press conference, the first attack, against Hoffman and his wife, occurred at 2 am local time in Champlin in the suburbs of Minneapolis. The couple have been shot several times and stay in the hospital. They both have a chance to survive. According to PAP, an attack on Hortman, a former chairwoman of the parliament and her husband, took place an hour later in Brooklyn Park, about 10 km away. When the police arrived at the politician’s house to see if she was also attacked, they saw the perpetrator of a police uniform dressed up, who came by car looking « exactly like a police car ». After exchanging fire with policemen, the perpetrator escaped from the scene of the incident, and his search is ongoing. Hortman and her husband died.

As the Governor of Tim Walz said, the attack was politically motivated. PAP reports that a political manifesto and a list of goals on which the names of politicians were found in the perpetrator’s car. The police identified the identity of the potential perpetrator, but she was not yet made public.
Our condition lost a great leader, and I lost my most expensive friend. The announcer Hortman was someone who served the inhabitants of Minnesota with graceful, compassion, humor and a sense of service, was a permanent element and a giant in Minnesota every day. It was an act of targeted political violence. A peaceful discourse is the basis of our democracy. We do not resolve our differences with violence or under the threat of weapons
– said Tim Walz, quoted by PAP.
The attack was also condemned by the US prosecutor Pam Bondi, who announced that the FBI would take part in the investigation. « Such terrible acts of violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted with all the rawness of the law, » she declared.
