US will withdraw if talks fail

US President Trump is convinced that Russia will end the war against Ukraine. He sees a « good chance » to achieve this. If this fails, the US will withdraw from peace efforts.

I think Putin wants this. » Trump said he would not require a peace solution if he was not convinced of him.

Trump threatens with withdrawal from talks

Trump said the US wants to continue its mediating efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also wants to end the war. There should be more clarity within two to four weeks, Trump said, without giving further details. There are « some big ego involved, » Trump continued. But if there is no progress, « I will simply withdraw, » he said, repeating his warning that he could abandon efforts to bring peace between Russia and Ukraine. « This is not my war, » Trump said.

Trump stressed that Russia wants to trade with the US « on a large scale ». He stressed that the war in Ukraine must conclude that this will happen. « Russia has a tremendous opportunity to create jobs and prosperity on a large scale. » Russia’s economic potential is unlimited. At the same time, Ukraine can take advantage of it in its reconstruction.

Trump had previously commented on the telephone conversation with Putin on his Truth Social platform, where he wrote that talks should begin immediately. Even Pope Leo XIV had offered the Vatican as a place for negotiations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European partners were informed about it, Trump said.
