US Supreme Court allowed Trump to abolish immigrant protection

The US Supreme Court made a decision on Friday with deep humanitarian consequences when the president administration Donald Trump permitted to immediately continue to abolish the program of temporary legal protection for more than half a million immigrants. It is this program of « humanitarian slogans », introduced by the previous Bidn’s administration for people fleeing crises in Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela. These people who have stayed and lawfully in the US are now facing a direct threat to loss of status and forced eviction.

The court granted the urgent request of the Minister of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. With this he retained a preliminary decision of the federal district judge Indire Talwani from Massachusetts, which prevented the administration from abolishing the status of status without individual judgment of each case. The Supreme Court did not explain its decision in the short decision, which is otherwise a common practice in deciding on urgent requirements.

The latter is, as he points out Politicsin a sharp, eight -page long dismissive opinion stated that most of the court « apparently missed » in judgment and did not take into account the « devastating consequences of allowing the government to suddenly disrupt lives and survival of almost half a million foreign citizens, while their legal claims are still waiting for a decision. » According to her, the decision will « allow unnecessary human suffering. »

The « Parole » programs for citizens mentioned four countries (known as CHNV programs) were introduced in 2022 and 2023 in order to somewhat regulate the pressure on the southern border of the United States while offering safe refuge for people in need. Beneficiaries had to undergo security checks and have a US sponsor. Already in October last year, the Ministry of Homeland Security announced that the permits would not be renewed.

The Trump administration ranked the abolition of these programs as its priorities immediately upon the second term, when the President ordered their completion by order. In March this year, Minister Noem, as reported at the time, officially revoked the status of beneficiaries and gave them only 30 days to leave. This move was then suspended by Judge Talwani, arguing that the law requires individual treatment of status.
