US Secret Document: Europe will discourage Russia, we are looking at China
Distributed by the Pentagon in mid -March, it outlines President Donald Trump’s vision for preparing and winning a potential war against Beijing and US defense from threats in « nearby abroad », including Greenland and the Panama Canal.
It gives a frame in which high-ranking defense officials to arrange their priorities, guides them for a more active role in the fight against migration and drug trafficking.
Trump said he was « tired » by Putin, and threatened Russian oil with high duties
China was also described as a leading threat in Trump’s first term, but the directions of Hegset have unprecedentedly describe a potential invasion of Taiwan as a living script prioritized to another.
This approves the redirection of the vast US military architecture to the Indian-Pacific region beyond the country’s defense mission. |
At the same time, increasing defense costs in Europe « will guarantee that NATO can reliably deter or defeat Russian aggression, even if the deterrent fails and the US is already engaged or must delay determination forces, primary conflict in another region, » the document continues.
« Taking risk »
Beyond this region can « take the risk » given the limitation of resources: in Europe, the Middle East and East Asia. To this end, the allies there – ie. And Europe – they need to spend more on defense.
The Hegset leadership admits that the US is unlikely to provide a significant, if any, support for Europe in the case of Russian military progress. Therefore, Washington plans to encourage its allies to take over the main defense of the region. The United States will support Europe with nuclear determination of Russia and NATO should only rely on US forces that are not necessary for the country’s defense or China’s deterrence missions, the document said. |
Those groups in the Middle East and Africa, which do not plan international attacks (even if they are regional danger), will be deprioritized.
China and the United States only
« China is the only threat to development » and must be denied the opportunity to present the world to a fact, taking over Taiwan, Haget continues. The US internal defense is the only great priority. The threat from Moscow will not be in the accounts when the measures are planned in the event of a big war, it will only be planned in view of conflict with China.
Accordingly, NATO has to take on a « much greater » weight because the US will not tend to provide strength if their priorities focus elsewhere. This, the Washington Post notes, is contrary to the 2022 National Defense Strategy and the focus on Russia.
Pentagon’s new strategy: Russia is a « serious threat », but more important is China
In the national security committees in Congress Republicans and Democrats describe the document as confusing, according to an assistant in the legislative body.
This requires a withdrawal from most of the world, but the administration still demonstrates fire power and deterrent against the Huts, the helper continues, according to whom it is difficult to draw up a strategy about these directions: « There is a tension between » we want American power and military domination in the world « and » we want to be everywhere, but nowhere. «

The relationship with « Project 2025 »
The 9 -page document has similar and even in places identical passages with a report of the « Project 2025 » Foundation « Heritage » according to an analysis made by the US newspaper. One of the co-authors of the Heritage report, Alexander Veles-Greine, is now playing a temporary role as a senior political officer of the Pentagon. The August report recommends prioritizing action against a potential Chinese invasion, pressure to share the burden from allies and protect the country itself.
So far, the directions of the Hegset are the same with all three points. The Congress Aid said that it was clear to the employees of the Capitol hill that the document was influenced by the conservative cerebral trust, and the Heritage did not respond to a request for comment, the Washington Post continued, recalling that Donald Trump had a highly distance from the project.
High -ranking US military officials directly tied the vision of Heritage to the directions of Hegset.
What is changing in Asia
The Pentagon’s new guidelines for Taiwan include an increase in the presence of troops through submarines, bombers, unmanned ships and special parts of the army and marine infantry, as well as a greater focus on anti-bunker bombs.
China hinted that Trump could throw Taiwan
The plan also calls for the improvement of defense at the US troops in the region, generating pre -positioned stocks and improving logistics. In addition, there is talk of « Taipei » pressure to significantly increase defense costs. Trump has called on the share to reach up to 10%, or much above the spending now.
Since taking office, Trump has avoided the question of whether the US would allow Beijing to take over the island with force.
Two people familiar with the official discussions in Taiwan said the Taipei government is struggling to make its way to the new US administration against the backdrop of increasing doubts about Washington’s support – especially after the ill -fated Ukraine leaders and Ukraine meeting in the White House. President Lai Chin, last week tried to reassure Trump, saying that Taiwan would increase his defense costs to more than 3 percent of his GDP, at about 2.5% now.
