The Caesar Protection Law, which covers the US sanctions against Syria, was recently extended by 2029 with the defense budget of the previous US President Joe Biden, which was recently adopted at the congress.

The Caesar Law, which was named after the Syrian photographer who documented the tortures in the prisons where the Bashar Assad regime opponents were kept in the US Congress on December 2019, was enacted on 17 June 2020 to increase financial pressures against responsible persons and institutions due to war crimes against civilians and human rights violations.

This law, which supports the regime forces in Syria by supporting the war crimes and human rights violations in the country, includes Assad, as well as state officials, security forces, business people, and the alleged war crimes.

According to the Caesar Law, Assad is listed as the first person to impose directly sanctions due to war crimes and human rights violations. In addition to Assad, 39 Syrian senior officials, including his family and his wife, are included in the institution sanction list.

General Züheyr Assad and his son Kerem Assad, as well as Hafız Assad’s son Hafız Assad is also on this list.

In addition, many senior officials and military leaders involved in Syria’s security and military networks were also influenced by the sanctions under the Caesar law.

Assad’s brother Major General Mahir Assad was included in the sanction list within the scope of this law because it directly contributes to civil war and violence against civil war in Syria.
