US increasing pressure on European companies: Stake diversity policy or loss of government contracts

Dozens of European companies have received a letter from American embassies in which it is demanded that they will stop their diversity policy. If they do not, they risk losing their contracts with the US government. Report that the French newspaper Les échos and the British business newspaper The Financial Times.

In the letter, the US embassies request European companies to sign an attached form. In it they declare that they « do not carry out programs that promote diversity, equality and inclusion (dei) and that are contrary to the applicable anti -discrimination laws. »

The French Ministry of Foreign Trade called the American pressure in a statement unacceptable. « American interference in the inclusion policy of French companies – such as threats with unjustified import rates – is unacceptable, » the ministry says.

In his inauguration section, President Donald Trump announced that he wanted to put an end to diversity policy within the government. Since then, his government has taken several steps to reverse dei programs in America. Already on the second day of his term, Trump signed a presidential decree that puts an end to positive discrimination in business, according to him an « illegal » system. Now it seems that this course is also being continued outside the national borders. Whether Dutch companies have also received such a letter is not known.
