US government blesses arms in billions of billions with Israel
The US government has approved further arms sales to Israel worth almost three billion euros. As the U.S. State Department announced, deliveries should begin and continue until 2028. The usual review by the congress is dispensed with.
Foreign Minister Marco Rubio referred to a controversial emergency clause that enables the US government to approve weapon sales in urgent cases without prior parliamentary examination. He justified the step with the United States national security interests. The previous government under President Joe Biden also made use of this clause.
Demand for more transparency
The United States is the most important protective power of Israel. Critics demand more transparency about how US weapons are used by Israel and whether humanitarian international law is observed. The goods now approved are different types of ammunition and military equipment.
