US from tomorrow with 104 % customs duties on imports from China
The United States will introduce 104 % customs duties for Chinese goods from Wednesday, 00:01 in the eastern US time zone (tonight, 21:01 Macedonian time), a White House official confirmed, Western media reported.
The decision comes after Beijing failed to lift its countermeasures to US products until the deadline – Tuesday afternoon, as US President Donald Trump has previously requested.
Instead, China has said it will « fight to the end » and take countermeasures against the United States to protect its interests after President Trump threatened with an additional 50 % customs import to Chinese imports.
The Ministry of Commerce in Beijing said the imposition of the so -called « reciprocal customs duties » by the United States on China is « completely unfounded and represents a typical one -sided practice of intimidation ».
China, the world’s second -largest economy, announced retaliatory customs duties, and the ministry in its latest statement suggested that more measures could follow.
– The countermeasures taken by China aim to protect its sovereignty, security and development interests, as well as to maintain normal international trade order. They are completely legitimate – the ministry said.
