US Defense Minister: The United States will be ready to attack Iran if the perplex nuclear negotiations

« If we do not manage to solve this at the negotiating table, there are other options to ensure that Iran never comes to a nuclear bomb, » Pete Hegsetth told Fox News on Sunday.

« What we do against the Hutist and in the region, we have shown our ability to go far, deep and very strong (…). We do not want to reach that point, but if necessary, we will do it to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear bomb, » said US defense minister.

Two countries, which did not have diplomatic relations since 1980, held negotiations on Saturday with the mediation of Oman.

Hegsetth described the debate as « very constructive », which was the position of Tehran. Negotiations continue on April 19.

The indirect negotiations of Iran and the United States lasted just over two hours on Saturday. Negotiations in Muscat, the capital of Oman, were held in different premises with Oman officials who conveyed messages to the Iranian and American delegation.

Iranian state television announced that the special Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and the head of Iranian diplomacy of Abas Aragci « spoke briefly » in the presence of the Omani Foreign Minister at the end of the negotiations.

Western countries led by the United States have been doubting for decades that Tehran wants to reach a nuclear weapon. Iran, whose economy is struggling under sanctions, rejects these accusations and says that its nuclear activities are limited to civilian purposes.

Washington withdrew from the International Nuclear Agreement with Iran 2018, partially motivated by the lack of measures against the Iranian Ballistic Passport Program, which is perceived as a threat to his ally Israel.

But in his second term, Donald Trump decided to start negotiations with Tehran on a new nuclear agreement.

At the same time, the US president threatened to bomb Iran if diplomatic efforts did not succeed and introduced additional sanctions against the Iranian oil sector.
