It is reported that Bridget Brink, who has been working as an ambassador to Ukraine since 2022, allegedly plans to apply for a resignation ahead of time.
According to the interlocutors, the ambassador has not yet taken any official steps, but started « farewell calls » to colleagues.
At the request of CBS, neither Brinka nor the State Department was answered.
According to one of the US sources, the US High Office, the reason for such intentions is the « combination of personal and political concerns », including the curtailment of USAID’s work by Trump’s decision.
Among personal reasons is the fact that Bring in Ukraine is without the family.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio allegedly intended to leave her in office and had already rejected her first statement of resignation in January, which was rather formality – in connection with the change of administrations.
According to Reuters sources, there is no obvious signs that one of the final incentives for Brink was criticized by Vladimir Zelensky after she did not mention Russia in her post about the Russian blow on Kryvyi Rih on April 4.
It is not yet known who can become a successor to Brinka in the event of its early resignation. An unnamed official and « another person who is aware of the question » informed the agency that Chris Smith, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Eastern Europe, Policy and Regional Affairs at the Bureau on European and Eurasian issues, could be the agency. Smith was already working at the Embassy in Kiev by the deputy chairman of the mission in 2022-2023.
