Urgent meeting at PSD

The social-democrats meet in an emergency meeting, according to Realitatea Plus, which cites sources inside the PSD.

The PSD sets up the new strategy of the party and the direction it will follow after the victory of Nicușor Dan.

On the table of the discussions is the decision regarding the head of the party, after the resignation of Marcel Ciolacu from the position of prime minister.

It remains to be seen whether Marcel Ciolacu will give up the position of president of the party and who will go to the PSD. Former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu also congratulated Nicușor Dan, the winner of the presidential elections on May 18. He thanked the Romanians for coming to vote and stressed that Romania needs « reconciliation and reconstruction ». « I congratulate Nicușor Dan for victory and congratulate the Romanians in the country and in the diaspora, because their massive presence will give the future president with increased legitimacy, » Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.

Nicușor Dan, an independent candidate, obtained 6,104,979 votes (53.78%), at the second round of the presidential elections.

In the second place is George Simion, the candidate of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, who obtained 5,247,092 votes, representing 46.22%.
