Urban Explorers penetrate into old cinema complex: video of deteriorated cinema room goes viral (Lanaken)

A while ago it was once broken into the former cinema complex at Europaplein in Lanaken. Last weekend another burglary was noticed. The glass window of the cinema hall was broken. « Our finding was that unknown suspects destroyed a window of the vacant building and created disorder. The police investigation is still ongoing, » says a spokesperson for the Lanaken-Maasmechelen police.

In the neighborhood, residents say that young people regularly hang out on the abandoned buildings. The cinema chain Pathé took over the cinema in Lanaken 6 years ago. But last year the French cinema operator decided to close the location. Together with the closed adjacent café, the complex has been desolate for a while. The burglars have made some mess and even old 3D film glasses are on the floor outside. The broken window has since been closed by the East Limburg fire brigade with wood.

It has since become clear that a group of Urban Explorers have invaded the building. Urbexers more often explore old buildings such as schools or churches and filming how they walk around there. This visit to the cinema in Lanaken was also shared by a young man via Tiktok, with the necessary comments. In the video you can see how everything is broken, popcorn lies on the floor everywhere and chairs are in a lot. It is not clear who the maker of the video is. In the meantime it has been viewed 40,000 times.
